Sunday Morning Music (7/18/21)
Happy Sunday!
First, a big, big thank you for the incredible response to my conversation with Crystal Lewis, which just hit on Friday. Click here to read if you haven’t already!
I shared on Twitter earlier this week that this has been one of the most productive periods of my life. I’m so grateful to be a part of sharing stories that matter both musically and theologically (for me, those two components are always intertwined), but it has also been a time of deep grief. A part of digging into the stories that I’ve been studying, questioning, and thinking through isn’t just about music. It’s about how we, culturally and politically, have landed where we are. The refusal to change, to evolve (as Crystal so beautifully said in our interview) has cost us individually and collectively. Five minutes spent watching the news tells us that. So, that’s been sitting with me.
Having said that, this week’s #SundayMorningMusic was culled from my own need for some comfort music. Some of these songs have been with me for a large part of my life, some I’ve discovered in recent years and they’ve quickly become staples. I hope the music brings you a sense of joy, peace and ease in these troubled times.
