As I was working on this past week’s feature on women’s music pioneer, Meg Christian, I got stuck on her 1977 collaboration with Sweet Honey in the Rock, “The Road I Took To You.” Sweet Honey’s body of work is one that has been such a companion on the journey—a vital bridge between many musical worlds, but in the context of this past week’s article, especially between gospel and women’s music. So, the presence of Sweet Honey, founder Bernice Johnson Reagon’s daughter, Toshi, and, their musical descendent, Lizz Wright, on this week’s playlist was unavoidable (smile).
